1983

Turns out today is the 30th anniversary of the release of Valley Girl (thank you internet, how did humans manage without you before?).  I will admit that I did not see this movie in the theater.  I did see all the John Hughes films in the 80's but not this one.  Perhaps I got side tracked and wound up in the theater to see Streets of Fire instead - I so remember seeing that movie in the theater and I even walked to get there.   I did see Valley Girl in the 80's though and think I will bust out my VHS tape and watch in memorial this week.  Interestingly enough I did find out that they made Nicholas Cage shave his hairy chest so that he would not look so old it in.  MAN I have been wondering all these years why he had such a perfectly shaped triangle patch of hair all.  Was hot so it kinda disappoints me, plus I find it odd that it never dawned on me (especially in this age of manscaping) - but one less question on my list - yay!

Still Midnight

I thought all day today about Midnight Cowboy - such a good story and so well done.  It explores loneliness and connection with others and how it is not only through traditional means that it can be done.  Plus the Joe Buck character is so sweet and sincere.  He had been through a lot and yet he kept his honesty and kindness.  I read that the movie is very true to the book so now I am curious to read the book.  I ordered it and can't wait for it to come.  People can be in totally different places in their lives and look down at times upon those not in the same place but this just shows none of that BS matters.  We all want the same thing - regardless of what we have or don't have, what we say or don't say or what we do or don't do.  Everyone's story starts the same and end the same.  Those that remember that usually write the most interesting chapters that come in between.

Midnight Review

I got my computer back but since then my netflix was not working.  I finally called on Friday about it and they fixed it lickey split.  I dunno why it took me so long to call but it worked well as I am having a low key weekend.  I was sorting though my list of movies to see and Midnight Cowboy popped up.  I had no idea what it was about but knew it won and Oscar - plus have been in a 70's kinda mood so I clicked play.  What a great movie - sad yes. but so touching.  Like an updated version Of Mice and Men.  Jon Voight's character (Joe Buck), although misguided is so sweet and sincere.  I could so identify as he was drawn to the broken ones, especially since he was also broken.  He and Ratso lived in squalor but they had friendship.  Sure money helps a lot in this world but humans need to connect with other humans - any other fucked up bullshit doesn't matter if you have at least one person that is glad you are here.

A Place for Ruby's Pearls

I was out rounding up stuff today to resell on ebay today and I came across a super awesome celluloid pink jewelry box.  It had no jewelry in it but it was in awesome condition and at a two bucks I was loving it.  I had never heard of Deltah (love the Bostonian spelling) so I did some research on it and found this vintage ad from the 1940's for the exact box that I bought.  The ad itself is so great and I love even more that the box held pearls.  Guess these were all the rage in the 40's too and had plenty of Hollywood Star endorsements.  I only got the box - sadly no pearls but I am fine, you know I love boxes.  I really did buy it to resell it but now think it gonna stay in Esco with me for a while.  This weekend I will take pictures of it to post so you can see how beautiful it is.  I am so not materialistic - I drive a freaking Saturn but classy and vintage and just to die for - this box made my day (not a sentence I have ever sad before, pun intended).  I bet if I did have the pearls though that I would look damn good in them.

What Are You Picking Up Now?

I get a lot of grief for picking up stuff off the street or sidewalk -- I can't help it, I am too curious.  I never find anything of great value but I always find something of great interest.  We recently I spied a pair of sunglasses so I went over to them and picked them up and they turned out to be a pair of Smith sunglasses in excellent condition.  I feel awful for whoever lost them but that is why I only get my sunglasses at the dollar store.  Although I did manage to keep my vintage 80's clubmaster sunglasses all these years and still love them.  Well I checked out the glasses when I got home and they retail for $125 but I could find them on eBay for $80.  I posted them today for $20, since they are used, and they got a bid in 10 minutes.  YAY for picking up trash!  Now I just have to wait all week to see what they go for.  Even if they only go for $20 then I am pleased.  So remember there are treasures out there if you keep your eyes open for them.  Also again I am sorry for whoever lost them.

Sad Day

Bombs in Boston - how awful.  Most days the world is really difficult to understand but today it is even more difficult to understand than normal.  I am glad all my friends and family are safe.  My heart goes out to those that cannot say the same.

Fantastic

Spent most of my day so far cleaning and listening to Wham.  Screw that whole guilty pleasure label - they are pure audio velveeta - totally made to enjoy, which I did greatly today.  Can only imagine what the neighbors are thinking but considering how much I have to listen to barking dogs, well I don't really care.  Here are some of my most favorite Wham lyrics:  "My daddy says the devil looks a lot like you";   "Do you enjoy what you do?  If not,  just stop, don't stay there and rot";    "I'll be your hope, I'll be your pearl, I'll be your halfway round the world";  "But you know that I'll forgive your for just this once, twice, forever".  Oh George Michael why did you turn out to be such an ass.  Shame.

Everyone is so Witty This Week

Lately everyone's messages have been killing me.  Here is a text conversation I had today with Jane.

Scott:  I am outside on break - the flowers smell awesome and the birds are signing - feel like I am in a Disney movie!
Jane:  I hope prince charming shows up.
Scott:  oooooh that would make my day! fingers crossed!

Jane's response was so quick and funny - totally cracked me up.  She is good.  Continuing the story - I looked around for the above image which is the prince from Tangled cuz I liked him.  Now that I posted the picture and have been looking at it -- he has the same eyebrows as Michael Socha, who I wrote about in just a couple posts before.  Do you see that?  I totally looked for this picture at random and look at that?  Just connecting all the dots this week - love it.

Kym's Cabbie

I love random messages and this one from Kym today I REALLY enjoyed!
Tunisia - who knew.

Kym:  Super cute in my opinion from Tunisia. Sadly I wasn't his type ;)
Scott:  WOOHOO - I wanna go for a ride!
Kym:  Scott he was so my type physically just gay as many of the hot single men here are....
 He was funny too.
Scott:  Well that is ok you were not his type. Even for those who play on my same team I am often not their type :( C'est La Vie! :)
Can't believe you snagged his picture - how awesome! Forgive the expression but you as such a ballsy woman, which is why I love ya!
Kym:  He was so cool and flattered by how hot we (my friends) thought he was. I asked 'Can I take your picture?' Obviously he loved the attention ;)
Scott:  You and your hot friend totally made my day and possibly my blog :-)

Set of 8

I do not know why I have the following quirk but I do!  I have talked about it before and here is yet another story of it.  I have a set of glasses like the above glass.  They are not expensive at all and are called window pane style.  They are lightweight and I have 8 - which is more than plenty for a man that lives alone.  Recently I while washing dishes I shattered a glass, unfortunately that is a very common occurrence for me.  It was in pieces and no salvaging it so I threw it out and was bummed out about it.  It left me with 7 glasses - still more than enough for a man that lives alone but I was mad at myself that I did not have the full set anymore because I broke one.  I did not get too, too upset but it bugged me and then I eventually let it go and secretly prayed I did not have 8 thirsty people at my house.  Recently while at Salvation Army I came across this single, exactly the same glass as my set that was sitting on the shelf.  It was 99 cents and on sale at 50% off --- it sooooooo made my day!  All I could think was, that is my glass - it came back to me - I connected the dots and gleefully snagged it in order to purchase it.  I got it home and then washed it and now I have a set of 8 again and the world seems right.  Isn't that just craziness?  First I don't know why I keep replacing things that break with the same exact thing - that is weird in and of itself but how happy I was to have my set of 8 again is bonkers.  Anyway c'mon over!  I have plenty of glasses for everyone to have a drink.  Oh man I need one right about now.  It feels so bizarre to see you own insanity but even more other worldly to actually put it into words.

Best Text Ever

Judy was at Ikea and had the Swedish meatballs then sent me a text to say how good they were.  She had to text me as she posted it to Facebook but I do not do Facebook.  She told me that one of her followers usually has negative things to say and here is the text discussion that happened between us:

Judy:  Went to Ikea and had Swedish meatballs, they were yum.
Judy:  Posted a photo on Facebook and a person who always likes to start arguments posted, "Nothing like having dinner at a furniture store"
Judy:  I responded with "I know Jordan's should open a buffet"  LOL

Scott:  Wow - that is a cranky thing to say by that person - ur funny about the Jordan's remark - who was it and why are they on your Facebook if they always start fights?

Judy:  People are always like that - him especially
Judy:  I was dying typing that response but I knew he wouldn't have one to that which is the best feeling

Scott:  People are always like that?  Serious?  Wow, why be so negative & cranky in this world?  Jeez

Judy:  They need to be right and have an opinion.  The world is full of insecurity

Scott:  But why would you wanna be friends with them?

Judy:  Because otherwise he is not a bad person
Judy:  You just know what to expect

Scott:  You take the good, you take the bad and there you have the facts of life.

My last line of text was my best text EVER.  I was dying over it.  The change to get to quote the theme song to The Facts of Life and have it be so utterly perfect and fitting - too funny.  I am not sure who it cracked up more myself or Judy but I do know that I am still chuckling over it today.

Glad you enjoyed your dinner Judy!  It looks yummy.  Thanks for sharing.

Here is to When...

My memory might not be the greatest but I totally remember when I had THAT hair and THAT haircut which the guy in the jacket with the hanky has in this picture!  Oh time is a cruel, cruel thing.  I hope he enjoys it as much now as I did then.

Seen It All

Here is a story where it all connects - and you know I LOVE when that happens! I read an article about Jake Bugg - some British kid that is up and coming because he is breaking the mold by writting his own songs, playing for real his instruments and singing with his own voice - no digital minupulation. How crazy is that in today's modern world of digital enhanced perfection this guy is going against the grain by being a real musisian. The article made me curious enough that I looked him up. I clicked open the video and entered the gates of heaven! Not because Jake is so mind blowing - although I did enjoy the song - but because I am soooooo in love with the actor that is in it!!! What an awesome suprise. His name is Micael Socha and he plays Tom on my most favorite show, Being Human. I cannot get enough of that show. It is so clever and enjoyable. I watched all four seasons and am dying waiting for the fifth. I adore the charater of Tom. He is so sincere and loyal and sweet and tough and silly and just perfection. And the actor that plays Tom is all that to the 100th degree! Look at those eyes! They are so impossibly perfectly round that they look artificially created. His eyebows are insanely expressive - they tell you everything in the most complex manner - it is like he is wearing classic literature on his forehead. This is the best ever and so had made my week - perhaps year!
If you are in Boston area and wanna see Jake he will be playing at the Paradise on 09.18. I would go just on the off chance that Micael would be there. I will not be seeing Jake as the closest he will be to me is SF and I am sooooooo much happier to save my pennies in order to return to London someday and track down Michael. Dare to dream!

PS - It would not let me post the video so you can click the link above to enter heaven for yourself.

All in the Right Direction

Yay I am back on track!  I got my laptop back and am so excited to be living back in 2013.  Sure I love 70s am gold music but the fact that I do not have to wait literally 5-8 minutes of a new page to load is heaven.  And I did it in cash - I do everything in cash now.  My job is going well and I have started up on eBay again which helps.  Taxes and credit cards are undercontol.  I am moving things all in the right direction.  I am soooo excited and happy - not to mention very pleased with myself !

Good Investment

I got this dish at the Salvation Army for 80 cents but that is not why this was a good investment.  It is the perfect size at 5.5 inches in diameter, green is my favor color and although it is old fashioned, I really like cut glass but all of those are not the reasons this was a good investment either.  Once I talked my doctor about my bad memory and he said as long as I do not forget my address, social security number, phone number, etc then I am fine.  He also recommended that I not do the same things over and over so that I use my memory more.  Well I finally got tired of fucking looking forever for my keys and wallet when I leave the house so I purchased this dish in order to put those important things in each night so I can find them in the morning when I leave the house.  (Although close to the door it is not visible from the door.)  The relief of knowing where my stuff is when I need it is what makes this such an excellent investment.  I do not care if I am not using my memory skills, the time I save, the relief I feel and the lack of daily frustration - damn I should have bought a dish like this years ago!
